1. What is the Loudoun County Pandemic Influenza Response Plan?

The Pandemic Influenza Response Plan describes how Loudoun County will prepare for and respond to a flu pandemic in our community. It is not a plan for families, businesses, or schools. Guides for completing these plans are available on the Flu website.

2. Why did Loudoun County create and post its Pandemic Influenza Response Plan online?

A flu pandemic will put significant strains on the ability of the Loudoun County government to provide critical services to its citizens. This plan helps the county detect a pandemic as early as possible and helps ensure the county government’s continuity of operations. The more people who read and understand what the county can and cannot do in a flu pandemic, the better prepared our citizens will be.

3. What agencies were involved in creating this plan?

The county's coordinated effort involved almost every county agency, including:

• Inova Loudoun Hospital


• Loudoun County Public Schools


• Town of Leesburg with consultation of other towns


• Virginia Department of Health

4. What are the next steps for the county government?

Now that Loudoun County has completed its pandemic influenza response plan, the next step is to test that plan to see how well it works and improve the plan based on results from the exercises.

Every individual, family, and business should have a pandemic influenza response plan. It is not known when the next pandemic will occur, but it is known that those who have created a plan in advance will do much better during a flu pandemic than those who do not plan ahead.
