The Code of Virginia requires that your home and any accessory structures on your property comply with the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code
The Uniform Statewide Building Code sets standards for the structural, elevator, electrical, mechanical, plumbing and fire protection components of construction. By reviewing plans, issuing permits, and performing field inspections for alterations and improvements to your property, the Department of Building and Development helps you comply with the provisions of the law.
Loudoun County is required to enforce the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code
(VUSBC), which incorporates by reference the Council of American Building Officials (CABO) One and Two Family Building Code, the CABO Model Energy Code, the Building Officials and Code Administrators (BOCA) National Building Code, the International Mechanical Code, the International Plumbing Code, and the National Electric Code.
